Tata Nexon PDI Inspection & Checklist: Common Showroom Defects to Check
The Tata Nexon is one of India's best-selling compact SUVs, celebrated for its 5-star Bharat NCAP safety rating and aggressive styling. However, due to high factory assembly line speeds and extensive yard storage, newly allocated Nexons frequently exhibit panel gap inconsistencies, paint thickness variations, and software infotainment glitches. A professional Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) before RTO registration ensures you take delivery of a flawless vehicle.
1. Exterior Fit, Finish & Panel Gaps
Tata Motors has significantly modernized its manufacturing lines, but panel gap symmetry remains a frequent issue during yard deliveries. Key inspection checkpoints:
- Bonnet & Headlamp Alignment: Measure gap tolerances along the dual-function LED DRL lightbar and clamshell bonnet. Ensure consistent 3.5mm to 4.5mm spacing.
- Tailgate & Rear LED Lightbar: Check for paint rubbing or friction marks along the rear boot lid shut lines when closing.
- Digital Paint Thickness Gauge Check: Factory paint on Nexon panels should measure between 90 to 125 microns. Panels measuring 250+ microns indicate showroom or in-transit transit scratch touch-ups.
2. DCA Gearbox & Engine Bay Inspection
If you have booked the Nexon 1.2L Turbo-Petrol with the 7-speed Wet-Clutch DCA (Dual Clutch Automatic) or the 1.5L Revotorq Diesel:
- Inspect the engine bay for loose electrical harness clips, battery terminal torque, and factory fluid levels (engine oil, coolant, brake fluid).
- Check the underbody steel skid plate and exhaust routing for scrape marks sustained during transport carrier offloading.
3. Infotainment & Digital Instrument Cluster Check
The 10.25-inch floating touchscreen and full digital driver display are packed with features but have had early software freeze reports. Before signing delivery:
- Test wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto connectivity.
- Engage 360-degree surround-view cameras and verify blind-view monitor clarity.
- Verify steering-mounted capacitive controls and cruise control engagement.
