Mahindra Thar & Scorpio-N 4x4 PDI Checklist: Underbody & Drivetrain Audit
The Mahindra Thar (3-door & Thar Roxx 5-door) and Scorpio-N are authentic body-on-frame off-road machines designed for extreme terrains. However, body-on-frame vehicles require specialized inspection procedures that monocoque cars do not. Misaligned ladder-frame chassis mounts, transfer case fluid leaks, and convertible/hardtop roof water leaks are common delivery defects that must be uncovered prior to registration.
1. Ladder-Frame Chassis & 4x4 Drivetrain Inspection
- Chassis Mount Bushings: Check all rubber cabin-to-frame isolation mounts for cracking, misalignment, or missing factory torque bolts.
- 4WD Shift-on-the-Fly / Transfer Case: Shift through 2H, 4H, and 4L. Verify smooth mechanical engagement without grinding or transfer case binding.
- Mechanical Locking Differential (MLD) / Brake Locking Differential (BLD): Inspect rear differential casing for oil sweat or seal leaks.
- Underbody Skid Plates: Inspect the fuel tank protector, engine sump shield, and transfer case armor for in-transit transit tie-down bent brackets.
2. Hardtop Sealing & Water Ingress Verification
Thar hardtop composite panels and Scorpio-N panoramic sunroofs require close scrutiny:
- Inspect the rubber seals along the removable/fixed roof sections and rear side quarter glass.
- Check floor carpeting under the rubber drainage plugs for trapped moisture or rust on seat mounting brackets.
